Louisville Zoo has a total of 1,700 animals in six different zones. You can explore and learn about the residing animals in the themed areas of the zoo: The Islands, Africa, Glacier Run, Australia, South America, and Herp Aquarium. Visitors of the zoo can also enjoy the splash park. 

Some of the highlights of the zoo are the black-footed ferrets and reticulated python. The endangered black-footed ferrets have black outlines on their face and feet. Established in 1969, the zoo is located in the Poplar Level neighborhood near I-264. The zoo is supported by its members who receive free admission and parking. 

Jim King Trail in Louisville

This is a paved trail for walkers and bicyclists along Beargrass Creek. Visitors can walk, run, and bike the 1.7-mile trail. Dogs are welcome but must be leashed. The trail is between Schuff Lane and the Louisville Zoo parking lot, and it is one of the best kept secrets in Louisville. The path is named after Louisville businessman and politician Jim King. Enjoy the sights and sounds of nature as you exercise! 

Louisville Mega Cavern

The Mega Cavern is a unique entertainment place in Louisville. A former limestone mine which was converted into businesses in 1989 is an awe-inspiring cavern featuring bare rock walls and cavernous ceilings. 

Currently, the Louisville Mega Cavern has a zipline, ropes course, tram tour, and mountain bike park. It also hosts an annual light display show during the winter. The Mega Cavern is over 4 million square feet and is technically considered a building by the local government.
